Music Lesson Plans including a story book for Pre-K, Kindergarten and elementary can be a highlight of the Orff classroom. Ferdinand is my February story for my Melody Makers classes. I guess just because he has such a loving, understanding mother (great for Mother’s Day events!) and since sweet Ferdinand is red, the book is red, it reminds me of Valentine’s Day! Ha. I use a lot of vocabulary with the story. For the instruments accompanying the story, Ferdinand is piano (soft) and his friends are forte (loud). Fortissimo comes immediately after the bee sting. We play a crescendo when Ferdinand grows and grows and grows. When playing the song, which I have reoccurring throughout the story so children get a turn playing lots of Orff parts, accents are added on certain beats. A great time to also add ostinato as a vocabulary word.
For Ferdinand and other stories with music, click Downloads and you will see this category for detailed lesson plans. I use the Kids Can Listen, Kids Can Move CD for the Bullfighter’s March. The dance is included in the Music Box lesson plan.
Speaking of the February love theme, Teachers, thank you and feel the love! I have to have all kinds of tech help and I couldn’t keep Music Box going without your support. I sure appreciate all our faithful members! Thanks too for telling other teachers about this resource. You are a special creative group of talented educators who inspire me. I admire the commitment you have to your students.
